I am seriously considering selling my truck and getting a commuter car (I feel like I’ve been saying this a lot lately sorry y’all). Anyway the Honda Civic Si FG2 looks very promising. 8k and VTEC yo! Anything else awesome I should consider?

I’m biased, but...
Good, lowish mile examples are 4-5k on the high end. New parts are starting to get scarce, but the flip side of that is that they’re starting to become more common in junkyards.

As an owner of an FA5 for nearly 6 years I can tell you they are very enjoyable cars with great spirit.

Would you suggest to avoid the SH version?

Now you’re just being mean

Given that I’m an ocean away I’m just prodding at the dark but I have opinions damn it. So anyway I say Mini Cooper S since I’m assuming they as cheap in $ as they are in £ and you get 250 HP+ with very little effort.
![]() 03/25/2016 at 16:53 |
|
Might be biased but SVT Focus.
![]() 03/25/2016 at 16:53 |

Ponyota Vibtrix GT/XRS. Over 8k redline, 6 speed manual, Toyota reliability, and relatively cheap.

I’m not saying second gen Isuzu Impulse, but second gen Isuzu impulse. They’re a little harder to find, but they’re so goddamn cool.
Handling by Lotus yo!

Im looking for the same thing but I’m looking for stuff under $1000. More of a beater vibe for me.

They’re scarce but c30s are starting to come down in price
![]() 03/25/2016 at 16:54 |

Cobalt SS Turbo, SC is probably cheaper.
Mazda Speed 3
Neon SRT4 if you can find one that isnt trashed.
If your gonna be stuck with fwd at least make it kinda fun, FI!

You actually get could a 205GTI to the states for about $8k.

Drive a Miata backwards
manual one, of course
![]() 03/25/2016 at 17:01 |

Given that I have never seen one of those before, I’m going to assume they never sold them here in the states. It’s a shame; that front end is actually really cool looking.

Acura RSX Type S
Toyota Celica GT-S
MINI Cooper S
Mazda 3/Mazdaspeed 3
Dodge Neon SRT-4
VW Golf GTI
Chevy Cobalt SS/Saturn Ion Redline
Ford Focus SVT

Hah! Nice trick question fun and fwd!? Contradictory my friend.
But really, why are you limited to just FWD?
![]() 03/25/2016 at 17:17 |

Not as definitively as I’d say avoid an automatic 5th gen or a 4WS 4th gen, but in most cases, yeah. The ATTS is difficult to maintain, expensive to fix, and doesn’t play well with mods, but when it craps out it just drives like a base model. When the 4WS on a 4th gen goes out the car becomes a deathtrap, and the autoboxes on 5th gens are prone to failure.

Mazda 3.
Mine’s an auto and I paid more than $8,000, but getting one for under 8k with a stick isn’t hard.

I didn’t see anyone talking about the Suzuki Swift GTi. 100 HP and weighed nothing (like 1700 lbs). You people with your fancy horsepower and big tires...

Yeah I took of pic of it when I drove by the new owner’s house a few days ago. It couldn’t understand why you had forsaken it:
Seriously though, even with the NP that’s a quick sale, congrats. Gain any scammer/idiot stories from the whole thing?

Parts/service for those tends to be difficult and expensive these days.

No issues. A few emails, all seemed legit. Easy sale.

I love a good Mini Cooper. They might be a bit more here stateside though
![]() 03/25/2016 at 20:43 |

![]() 03/25/2016 at 20:46 |

That is a beater vibe right there
![]() 03/25/2016 at 20:47 |

All three of those are on my mind as well. But the Civic is NA yo!
![]() 03/25/2016 at 20:49 |
|
Lol, it’s Toyota Matrix and Pontiac Vibe combined. The XRS first generation models had the 2ZZ-GE which made Honda’s VTEC lift seem civil. It also makes an alright noise.

Not limited just window shopping options

Nothing against the Civic, gotta love the boost though.
![]() 03/25/2016 at 21:18 |

Quoi?
![]() 03/25/2016 at 21:19 |
|
Well if you’re considering a civic because of vtec, you have to look for a 00-01 Celica GT-S. Redline at 8300 rpm with a valve lift that kicks you right in your nuts so sweet at 7200 rpm. This was toyota beating Honda at their own game. Also, the 6 speed manual is super short. So combine fast, high revving hard vtec kick in with aggressively geared 6 speeds. You have ridiculous amount of fun just trying to time your shifts just right.

They did for a few years, 02-04. Interestingly Lamborghini sold more Gallardos here than Ford sold SVTF’s (14,022 vs. 14,003).
![]() 03/26/2016 at 23:05 |
|
How much horsepower do these have?
![]() 03/26/2016 at 23:24 |
|
Only 170, but the car weighs about 2700lbs so it’s not like it feels underpowered or anything. If anything it feels faster because of the engine’s torque curve (85% available at 2200rpm and basically flat til 7000).
![]() 03/27/2016 at 09:08 |
|
I’ll be keeping that airborne 306 for later appreciation.
![]() 03/27/2016 at 23:54 |
|
It’s under 60 pounds and the weight balance is closer to 50/50. It’s very practical too. I was able to fit two sets of 18" wheels with tires mounted and a passenger.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 07:44 |
|
So basically the two door is just a little sleeker is all
![]() 03/28/2016 at 13:52 |

Can confirm. I drove an ‘06 S hardtop, and that thing was a blast! Might be less reliable than a Civic SI, but definitely worth looking into.
